FAQs

Hardscaping refers to any of several different types of non-living aspects of landscaping including retaining walls and various paving elements such as bricks, flagstone or pavers.

An interlocking paver is one of many sized and shaped paver products that fit together during install to create a flexible and long lasting surface.

That will depend on many factors including budget, use of the area and personal taste. Our representative will guide you in making a decision about materials, but we offer many types of stone and dozens of paver options.

Yes. Paver driveways can be plowed just like any driveway. A plow with a rubber edge is recommended. Do not use sharp objects to chop ice as they can damage the pavers.

Yes we can. The possible shaping of the retaining walls is somewhat dependent on the materials incorporated into the walls, but some of the products from Belgard and EP Henry make it possible to realize just about any shape.

Pricing depends on the scope of your job. The location of the space, size, soil composition, unique attributes, and products selected can all affect the price range. Each job is bid to the specific requirements of the client. Please note that we require a minimum $5,000 budget on all residential projects.

We strive to complete most typical residential applications such as driveways, walkways, and patios within a few weeks. Pools, retaining walls and other larger jobs can vary. Many factors can affect job timeliness including weather, material availability, job access and conditions.

In general, an entrance or patio constructed of natural flagstone on concrete costs more than the same design built using interlocking brick, or concrete pavers, usually about 30%-40% more. In some instances the price gap closes, such as when there are many steps required. Interlocking-type pavers require walls to be built to create steps and in that situation, the price can be quite close.

We install patios, driveways, walkways, retaining walls and much more in the Washington DC metro area including but not limited to all sections of Washington DC, Chevy Chase Maryland, Bethesda Maryland, North Bethesda Maryland, Rockville Maryland, Potomac Maryland, North Potomac Maryland, Kensington Maryland, Silver Spring Maryland, PG County, Alexandria Virginia, Fairfax Virginia, Arlington Virginia and some parts of Prince George’s County.

Patterned concrete pavements are merely slabs of concrete that are embossed with a pattern. Therefore, they are prone to the same problems with freeze/thaw cycles, namely cracking and spalling. Pavers won’t crack or spall. Stamped concrete requires expansion joints every 10 feet or so, which are very distracting in some patterns. Also, unlike pavers, patterned concrete pavements don’t allow access to underground utilities or the ability to make repairs. At virtually the same price per square foot installed, pavers are clearly a superior choice.

The great thing about pavers is that they are easy to repair. They can be pried out and replaced with new ones at any time. This makes pavers a very cost efficient product, for there are no real high costs involved in repairing.
